Unforgettable Places to See in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan

If you’re planning to experience the best of Japan’s culture, you should definitely visit the ancient capital – Kyoto Prefecture. During our recent trip to Japan, we visited four prefectures – Kyoto, Osaka, Toyama and Gifu. Among these four, Kyoto has the most number of cultural sites with a century-old history. There is no doubt it is one of the most popular tourist spots in Kansai, and the prices are a little bit higher as compared to other prefectures. Below is a list of the most unforgettable places to see in Kyoto Prefecture.

Unforgettable Places to See in Kyoto Prefecture

Fushimi Inari-Taisha

This one is on top of my list and is located at the base of Inari Mountain in Fushimi-ku, Kyoto. Each of Fushimi Inari-taisha’s roughly thousand Torii was donated by a Japanese business.

Kinkaku-ji Temple (Golden Pavilion)

The Golden Pavilion is a three-story building where the top two stories are covered with pure gold leaf. Thus, the name. It functions as a shariden (舎利殿), housing relics of the Buddha (Buddha’s Ashes). It is one of the most popular buildings in Nihon.

Nijō Castle

It is one of the seventeen Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto which have been designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

Yasaka Pagoda

Looking for a charming streetscape? Here’s a well-preserved landmark in Kyoto and is considered to be one of the most outstanding in Higashiyama District. It is an amazing place to go for a walk. You can explore this place with narrow lanes and traditional houses.

Starbucks in Kyoto

The world’s first Japanese-style Starbucks with tatami flooring and noren curtains is in Kyoto Prefecture. Not only that, this Startbucks is situated in a 100+ year old traditional building. It is one of the most unique Starbucks in the world and one of the most unforgettable places to see in Kyoto.

Puchi Marry Cat Cafe

See blog post here. Paradise with cats is in Kyoto! This cat cafe receives you with the cutest furry hosts – MEOW. A comfy place for fur parents to enjoy, watch movies, read comics, play PS4, and cuddle with CAAAAAAATS! For the furry hosts, you can buy them treats and can stay as long as you want!

Ichiran Ramen

Sure, we made sure to try out other ramens here in PH and Jap as well, but Ichiran ramen definitely and will always win my heart. Please don’t miss this place out.

Kyoto Station

Aside from being the main entry point, the Kyoto Station Area is also a shopping district. You can also see here the Kyoto tower. But, what I love about this point are the Cube Food Court on the 11th floor of the building where excellent restaurants can be found, and the Kyoto Ramen Koji where ramen restaurants reside under one roof! Heaven.

Visiting Japan is a bucket list experience. Kyoto has all the reasons to be visited regardless of the season. I hope that you get to experience all of these soon.

I’d love to see the Golden Pavilion or any of the pagodas. They are just so different from the architecture in my hometown.

I don’t know I’ve not heard much about Japan like I’ve about other countries. But I really like Japan and one of the things I love the most about the country is their building designs. They have preserved their building culture, which is so amazingly beautiful. It’s on my wishlist to someday visit this beautiful country.
Thank you for sharing this great post about Japan.
