Tonkotsu Ramen Experience in Ichiran (Tsim Sha Tsui) in Hong Kong

It was our third night in Hong Kong and we were looking for a place to eat near the place where we stayed in Tsim Sha Tsui. It was a long day out of walking with a quick brunch earlier that day. So, we were ravenously hungry! Dexter was also craving for ramen that night, so we looked for it. Thanks to our friend, Google and we we were able to have a tonkotsu ramen experience in Ichiran in Tsim Sha Tsui.

We had no idea that the ramen they have there was one of the best (in the world). Really! I can attest to this. I am not really a fan of ramen when I was still in the Philippines. The ones I’ve tried had bitter after taste and the noodles were not rich as compared to that of an authentic ramen. Before Ichiran, I wasn’t able to finish a bowl of ramen just because the it was bitter and the broth wasn’t something that would keep you eating.

Our tonkotsu ramen experience in Ichiran was definitely the best! During the experience, I made a quick background research about Ichiran. I found out that it is one of the most popular ramen restaurants in Japan. It originated in Fukuoka, but the most visited branch is in Shibuya.

The Face of Ichiran

This is how Ichiran looks like. Located at 8 Minden Avenue in Tsim Sha Tsui, it is very easy to locate it. What’s also good about it is it is accessible and near to the MTR exit.

When we entered the resto, a signage welcomed us saying to turn right which led us to the area for getting our orders. One should expect a long queue especially during peak hours because this is one of the most sought-after by the people.

Each of us was given a piece of paper for ordering and then asked to sit down while waiting to be attended. The staff then asked us if we wanted to sit in counters or in a table. We chose to sit in counters like the traditional way.

The best about this system is that you are able to customize your ramen the way you want it! If you want a more savory broth or firmer noodles, you can do so! If you want it with no spice, or spicy, spicier or spiciest, no problem at all! You also have the choice to add pork, egg, or not at all! You have all the freedom, darling.

Counters vs Tables

The good thing about choosing counters is you won’t be distracted by your surrounding and give you the chance to fully enjoy your food.

After waiting, we headed to our respective counters. We pushed the button on our table to call for the attendant. After that, we handed over our papers for our customized orders. As you can see in the picture, we had a tap for water in each booth. Down below that booth, there’s also a hook so you can hang your bag while having your ramen experience.

All I can say is it’s completely impossible to find a ramen restaurant here in the Philippines that’s better than Ichiran. Maybe I can find somewhere in Japan when I go there someday. The broth is so good and the firmness of the noodles is just so right!

It was so good that we came back the night after. We already ran out of HK dollars the second night in Ichiran. Good thing is they accept cards. Another plus for convenience.
If you visit Hong Kong or Japan soon, you should try the Tonkotsu Ramen experience in Ichiran so you will understand.

That place looks really fun! I love Ramen and would totally enjoy eating it fresh from a restaurant like that. Sitting alone would be a little weird for me though. LOL!

What a neat experience. I just love the little counters with the pull up blinds for the attended. And your meal looked amazing as well.

there are some great places to eat in Hong Kong. Its such an awesome place to visit, we did a hop on hop off bust tour and I can highly recommend it! Always keeping an eye out for places to dine at for next time!! thanks

I think counters is better than tables but I think that’s because I have watched Naruto eat at a counter entirely too long smh but this looks so cool!

Wow, that looks like an amazing experience! I had no idea that ramen traditionally was eaten in counters. And reading your post makes me hungry for good ramen! My first good ramen experience was in San Francisco of all places, but I have gotten good ramen locally too in a tiny college town in New Hampshire.
