Sumilon Island: DIY Budget Trip

Sumilon Island: DIY Budget Day Tour

Travelling is not always cheap no matter how tight your budgeting is. It is a wonderful thing to know that there are places in South Cebu to explore. Lying just around 15 minutes off the coast of Oslob, Sumilon Island boats its pristine white sand beaches, clear azure waters, and stunning sandbar that stretches about a hundred meters. An exquisite beauty – that is actually what Sumilon Island is. After you go whale shark watching, you can arrange a tour in Sumilon Island. Actually, Sumilon Island is owned privately by Bluewater Island Resort. If you plan to go here, the resort will cost your P1500/head during weekdays, and P2000/head during weekends. However, if you are on tight budget like us, you don’t need to spend this much. Let me tell you how.

HOW TO GET TO SUMILON ISLAND

If you are from Cebu City, go to South Bus Terminal. Ride a bus bound to Oslob. We rode a Ceres Bus with the route Bato-Oslob. Travel time takes about 3 to 4 hours. We spent P200/head for aircon bus. If you choose non-aircon, you only spend P157/head. Tell the bus driver to drop you off at AJ’s Place at Oslob. Actually, there are a lot of resorts you can transact with in arranging your boat to Sumilon. During our trip, we had our transaction with AJ’s. You can contact Myla (0922-445-3010) or Kuya Pipz (0918-654-4111). I suggest that you booked ahead the boat so as not to be swayed by locals offering you tour packages as you drop off the bus. Below are some few tips we’d like to share as you go there:

  • Rental fee for boat is P1500. This already includes roundtrip transfer. The boat can load around 12 to 15 passengers. The more you are in the boat, the lesser your contribution is.
  • There is an entrance fee/environmental fee upon entering the island is P50/head. There will be someone from the island to collect this fee when you reach the island already.
  • If you don’t have your goggles/snorkels, don’t worry because they are available for rent: P50 each.
  • Bring your own food and water.

The clear azure waters look so inviting.

We headed upstairs to have our brunch first. There are tables and chairs where you can have picnic while having a great view of the beach!
