start doing something

How to Actually Start Doing Something

I was about to close my laptop until I finally decided to write about how to actually start on something. I really want to finally start doing something – writing my thesis, and do you know what I learned? I just have to basically do it!

Most of us, me for example, spend countless hours procrastinating, or even doing other things just to stay away from doing that something simply because we don’t want to do it, or we aren’t prepared to do it. Right now, I am currently reading Nasa is Testing Own Limit As Planning To Fly New Spacecraft Through The Sun’s Hot AtmosphereCool, right?

How to actually start doing something?

But, how can we ever produce something great if we don’t get start doing something? Either you delay it further, or you do these:

DEFINE YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL.

Start here. Tell yourself what you want to achieve in a week, a month or a year. Having a goal and knowing it will give you direction. It’s the heart of all.

CREATE SMALLER GOALS OUT OF YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL.

So you have now your ultimate goal. Now, go from it to the next smaller thing you have to do, and try to work down its path. Doing this will create a road map to the ultimate goal.

START SMALL.

What I learned most importantly is this: it is not important how we start. What’s important is that we make the first step. It’s useless if we don’t. Be consistent and keep walking into the direction of your goal.

MAKE SELF-MADE DEADLINES.

This is important because from time to time, you are evaluating yourself if you are still on the right track.

If you are reading this, I’m sure you still have a thing you want to get started on. I hope the above helps. Tonight, I decided to end all my procrastination. I will sleep early, because tomorrow is a new day, and writing my thesis will come my way. haha!

Note to self: GET STARTED! Start doing something.

Very well explained and I really like the idea of breaking the bigger goal into smaller ones and then work towards each one of them. really great post

Great thoughts here! I absolutely agree that when it comes to a big project, we have to make bite-sized pieces that are achievable. I love the “SMART” goal system: make goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevent, and Time-Sensitive.

Absolutely agree! Sometimes we spend way too much time putting off a chore when we could have had it done already had we not kept finding other things to do instead.
