Pals, both two-legged and four-legged gathered at Escario Central Mall last Sunday, February 9 to have some fun and have the pets blessed officiated by Father Jun and Dr. Jess of Cebu City Pound, and initiated by Furry Hearts. By the way, Furry Hearts is a newly formed company operating online which sells pet supplies and accessories in Cebu City. The motivation of this company is to fuel rescuing of stray cats and dogs in the streets of Cebu. In addition to the pet blessing, it was a PAW-fect opportunity for animal lovers and rescuers to meet each other. About 50 people were expected to bring their cats and dogs for this event! The dogs had a wonderful time romping around meeting each other before the event began, while the cats tried to feel comfortable, embraced by their fur mamas and dadas.

The event began with a warm welcome from the two head J’s (Joan Fabe and Joan Alcudia) who both thanked the pet owners for coming to the event. The people make themselves and their pet comfortable. Afterwards, the official introduction of Fr. Jun, the program proper began. Fr. Jun even mentioned the story of Noah’s ark and the great flood in a reading from the book of Genesis, where the animals took part in the salvation during the great flood. Fr. Jun also shared some history about St. Francis of Assisi with the group. St. Francis is the Patron Saint of Animals because of his love for all creatures. He even wrote a Canticle of the Creatures, which was an ode to God’s living things. “All praise to you, Oh Lord, for all these brother and sister creatures,” St. Francis wrote in the canticle.
Pet Blessing 2020

After the ceremony, there were some fun games which everyone took part of. We also grabbed some snacks from Shawarma Gourmet. The shawarma is one of the best authentic Lebanese foods you could ever find here in Cebu! The two J’s wrapped up the evening by thanking everyone again for coming.
Part of the proceeds of this event goes to the TNVR program of Cebu City Pound. Each successful registration will sponsor one stray cat/dog to be spayed or neutered. The event was a huge hit! Thank you everyone for contributing to this success!

So amazing such a great way to help out those animals in need.
What a sweet thing! I love animals, I have a rescue dog. If I had more room, I would have more animals.
This is unique…really cool. I don’t have a pet but I do love animals..they are so cute!
I love this. So sweet! Animals need help too!
This is so great, for people to care for animals. I have one cat and we adopt one more that came to our home alone from the street. It is really important to learn constantly and improve our relationship with animals.
Oh my gosh this is a WONDERFUL idea. As an animal lover and a pet mama I totally support this. Thanks so much for sharing this with all of us!
I love this so much. I have gotten all of my pets blessed and it’s so special every time.
Great read..thanks for sharing!
Awww! This is such a fun idea to bring all the fur parents together. At first, I was worried about bringing cats to an event like this as I thought that they are so independent and they would run away.
Such a cute event. I know many people who would love to have their pet blessed
