Those who are close to me know that I am the one who will invite everyone to watch my favorite movie – The Green Mile, not only because it was made after one of the great works of my favorite author, Stephen King, but also it’s a movie full of surprises and will let you feel every emotion possible.
I am rightly tired of the pain I hear and feel, boss. I’m tired of bein on the road, lonely as a robin in the rain. Not never havin no buddy to go on with or tell me where we’s comin from or goin to or why. I’m tired of people bein ugly to each other. It feels like pieces of glass in my head. I’m tired of all the times I’ve wanted to help and couldn’t. I’m tired of bein in the dark. Mostly it’s the pain. There’s too much. If I could end it, I would. But I can’t.
John Coffey
The above lines from John Coffey are my favorite. For those of you who do not know yet my favorite movie – The Green Mile, I listed here a few facts to give you a glimpse of it.

The Green Mile was written by Stephen King
The Green Mile is a 6-volume book written by Stephen King back in 1966. The six parts include:
- The Two Dead Girls
- The Mouse On The Mile
- Coffey’s Hands
- The Bad Death of Edward Delacroix
- Night Journey
- Coffey On The Mile
Stephen King considered this movie the most faithful adaption of his works
The author, Stephen King, is one of the most credible and famous writers of all time. Many of his novels were turned into movies. and part of this fame is due to the fact that his novels are frequently turned into movies. According to Stephen King, himself, this is the most faith adaption of his works.
The movie director was Frank Darabont
Frank Darabont was the director of my favorite movie – The Green Mile. Before this movie, he also used Stephen King’s works “The Woman in the Room,” (1984) and “The Shawshank Redemption” (1994).
Tom Hanks played the role of Paul Edgecomb, one of the prison guards
I’ve read before that it was Tom Hanks who should be playing the role of Red (role played by Morgan Freeman) in the Shawshank Redemption. However, he was busy filming another great movie, Forrest Gump. But, during this time, Tom Hanks gladly accepted the role of Paul Edgecomb in the Green Mile, and he did a really great job!
Michael Dunkan played the role of John Coffey
The role of John Coffey, the gentle giant, was played by Michael Dunkan. This is one of the most crucial roles in the movie. John Coffey was a real huge man and at the same time, very timid and gentle who has healing powers. Bruce Willis was the one who recommended Michael Dunkan to play the role.
The movie made more than $100 million at the box office
Before the hit movie “It” last 2017, The Green Mile is the only Stephen King adaptation which more than $100 million at the box office.
The top reason why I love this movie is that John Coffey was an allegorical symbol of Jesus Christ.
While I was watching the movie, there are lots of similarities in the characteristics of John Coffey and of Jesus Christ. I can say that John Coffey is truly Christ-like which makes him an allegory of Jesus. He has supernatural powers which can heal; ability to understand and deeply feel what others are feeling; has the willingness to sacrifice; he believes God as his father; and most of all, he has the willingness to be executed due to a crime despite his innocence.
Hey, it’s more movie for your dollar! It’s like an extra inning. Wow! Now you can get a whole evening of entertainment!

Hihi….alright. I think I am going to take you up on your offer to watch it!
I have never read a Stephen King novel or watched the movie adaptations! I’ve heard that he is a genius.
Hmmm… Now I am curious about this movie. The movie that I like recently is Brooklyn starred by Saoirse Ronan, but I will definitely add Green Mile in my list.
Seems really like another good movie to watch, checking this out and watching soon!
The Green Mile is my favourite film by far and no matter how many times I watch it, I’ll always cry when he says not to put him in the dark
