Enough of Starbucks, Bo’s, Coffee Bean and the rest of the usual coffee shops, and take this one unique independent instead. Monkey Grounds Coffee in Mandurriao, Iloilo is quite the hip in town. Iloilo, known as city of love, is now home to one of the best independently-owned coffee shops around. As my friends invited me here for the first time, I felt a welcoming, cozy atmosphere. It was a night of late dinner and coffee. In fact, there were couples, friends and families here spending time together, chatting over lattes, and sandwiches.
Coffee lovers and vegetarians, this is a perfect place for you! A woody interior will welcome you. The shop is non-air conditioned, so you will expect a cozy place with a holiday smell to enjoy your food and coffee. Perfect spots for your Instagram posts are there, as well, enhanced by the natural lighting of your urban day.
Monkey Grounds Coffee is 100% vegetarian!
Another aspect that made me happy particularly which I realized only when I was already there was the coffee shop serves healthy, delicious vegetarian foods and desserts. The coffee shop is 100% vegetarian. That’s how it is stated in the menu. They use as much organic and locally sourced ingredients to make foods and bake desserts in their kitchen. If you are a vegan, they also have the options to recommend foods that are made the vegan way in their menu. That’s another reason to rejoice. While the whole restaurant itself is not vegan, most of it appeared to be. There really is something for everyone in here!
WHAT WE ORDERED
I ordered Spaghetti with Broccoli Balls and one of their signature native coffees, the Temple’s Brew (native coffee + almond milk). Joshua ordered Fries Deluxe, while Freddie ordered Iced Coffee Float.
The Spaghetti with Broccoli Balls was actually light, but full of flavour with a delicious and brightly flavoured tomato sauce. The fries were very good, and the gooey cheese enveloping was very rich and savory mouthful. As for the iced coffee float, it was a crowd favorite and you would never go wrong with an organic coffee blended with milk and iced cream on top. I definitely love the native coffee too, strong enough to keep me awake the whole night!
Almost midnight coffee sesh!
This idea is quite brilliant. To cut wastes, restos and cafes are now singling out the straw, and Monkey Grounds Coffee is one of them. Now, it’s another reason to love it here because they offer a more eco-friendly option in terms of straw usage.
As I have mentioned, the coffee I ordered made me awake the whole night. Who would be crazy to drink a strong cup of coffee during midnight? Well, that won’t stop me from coming back. I’d love to try their Bulletproof Coffee and some other dishes such as fresh salads. I’d also like to return for some desserts!
