Welcome back to my blog! This is part of our South Korea diaries, and today I will be talking about our trip to Le Petite France in Gapyeong. Gapyeong offers quite a few attractions such as Le Petite France, Nami Island and Garden of the Morning Calm. However, due to time constraints, we weren’t able to visit the last one. Before we headed to Nami Island which was our main destination, we made a side trip first to Le Petite France, a French-themed cultural vilage along the country side of South Korea. When you visit South Korea soon, you should not miss this place.
Introduction: Le Petite France in Gapyeong
Le Petite France in Gapyeong is a French-themed village consisting of 16 various French-styled and colorful buildings. When you go here, you have the option to enjoy French cuisine, learn and understand French clothing and see various collections at the museum.
Are you fond of literature? Perhaps, you have heard about the story of “The Little Prince” or “Le Petit Prince” in French. It was a story of a small boy from a very small planet who traveled his way to Earth. The journey is all about gaining wisdom. It was even paralleled to the life of the narrator who experienced the turmoil of WWII while in France. If you wish to read more of the story of the Le Petit Prince, see here.
When you go over the romantic village full of French elements, you will see that some of the drawings there are after the story mentioned.

How to go to Gapyeong from Myeongdong
- From Myeongdong Station, we took the train in Line 4 heading to Chungmuro Station and got down to Dongdaemun Station.
- Then, we transferred to Line 1 and ride a train heading to Cheongnyangni Station.
- We got off in Hoegi Station and transferred to Kyeongchun Line. Then, we rode the train going to Cheongnyangni Station and got off in Gapyeong Station.
Complicated? Yes. But, it’s the cheapest way to go there (haha). I tell you we got lost while transferring stations. But, it’s the price we pay.
When you reached the Gapyeong Station, you can ride on the Gapyeong City Tour Bus stops. The Gapyeong City Tour Bus stops at the Gapyeong Rail Bike, Nami Island, Petite France, and the Garden of the Morning Calm. From the station, you can purchase the unlimited ticket for 6,000 KRW. You can just hop on and off the bus. We first went to Petite France before we headed to Nami Island.

Although the whole place is small, Le Petite France has quite a few interesting spots such as museum about the Saint-Exupery, the author of The Little Prince; a couple of souvenir shops and antique shops selling various items.

Le Petite France in Gapyeong is such a small village, and it was smaller than I expected. So, when you go here, you need to really stretch your time to maximize your visit. If you’re also a K-drama fan (which I am not), this place might have more appeal to you since this place was used by lot of K-drama series which I know you already know of (if you’re fan, of course).
After visiting Le Petite France, we hopped on the bus then went to the ferry station to head to Nami Island. Watch out for the next blog post. Thanks for reading!
