I went earlier to the vet clinic which thankfully is opened today, December 25th, to bring a dehydrated cat with sinusitis (I think). There arrived a woman in her 50's together with her dog whom she said is a stray that she constantly feed in her area. She never hesitated to have him checked in the clinic because of the symptoms and based on the symptoms she mentioned, it's most likely parvo. The vet informed her that the tests alone could easily cost close to a thousand pesos, excluding meds, vits and professional fee. I was just listening and observing, and sometimes interrupt (haha) to offer advice. I see that the dog serves as her constant companion and a source of comfort the way she holds him. She responded that she doesn't have much to cover all the bills.

I’ve heard plenty of comments along the lines of: “If you’re poor, you shouldn’t get a pet.” But in this case, despite of having almost nothing at all, she was determined to save her dog. Perhaps, even if you have dedicated savings account for vet bills – you can always run into unplanned circumstances like my case. Fortunately, I was able to bring extra to cover her excess bill.

I was touched by the dedication and love of this woman for how she spent her "last money", and to all those indigent pet owners challenged by vet expenses but still do everything they can to save their pets lives. I wish that more and more cities will have programs providing free or low-cost vaccinations and spay/neuter assistance. With more and more available resources, it could really help desperate owners so that they will no longer suffer unnecessarily.

Hello everyone! We are looking for foster mom/dad who can take in Choco, a pregnant dog from Persimmon until her pups have weaned and she gets spayed. This dog is very affectionate once you get her trust. She doesnt get along right away due to history of abuse. She was very skinny the first time we saw her, but thanks to Persimmon residents who constantly feee the strays there. We can transport and provide all supplies for her.
